BLUE RIVER SERVICES, INC. TO OPEN AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM AT SALEM MIDDLE SCHOOL

Blue River Services, Inc. was among 17 recipients to receive funding from the Indiana Department of Education as part of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program. The grants support organizations throughout the state that provide out-of-school enrichment programs to Indiana students. With this funding, Blue River will receive $125,000 open a new after school program at Salem Middle School beginning with the 2022-23 school year. 

The Salem Middle School program will target low-income, academically-challenged middle school students (grades 6 – 8) and work closely with the principal to determine priority for participation. In addition to academic remediation, the program will focus on social/emotional learning. Children identified by the school principal, classroom teachers, and/or the local Division of Family and Children’s Services Department to be in serious need of a safe and secure after school environment, also will be accepted.  

In addition to the program at Salem Middle School, Blue River also provides after school programming at Bradie Shrum Elementary, North Harrison Elementary, Morgan Elementary, East Washington Elementary and Middle School, Medora Elementary and Middle School, Fairmont Elementary, Green Valley Elementary, S Ellen Jones Elementary, and Slate Run Elementary. 

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program is an out-of-school time initiative authorized under Title IV, Part B, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act and reauthorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act.
